Who are you?  Why are you in this class?

  1. Who am i? Well my name is Heather McGee, I'm a junior Psychology major with a Sociology minor. I am taking this class to full fill my Philosophy/ethics requirement. I decided to take this particular one because it sounded interesting and because i had the teacher before and liked that class. I figure that since i am going into Psychology, and that ethics is going to be something i have to deal with on a daily basis, that i should go ahead and take this course.

  2. My name is Matt Love, I'm a sophomore Business Administration major. I am taking this class as well as to full fill my Philosophy/Ethics requirement. I decided on this particular course because Heather asked me to take the class with her and we believed that we could help each other with the class if one of us didn't fully understand something.

  4. My name is Jimmy Beatrice, im a Senior Biology major. Even though I am a Bio major and am taking this class on medical ethics I am not pre med or going into a medical based field. Like I said in class my interests are in learning about animals, and I plan on being a Zookeeper, Zoologist, or animal researcher as my career. However, I have always enjoyed learning and admired all fields of biology and that is why I wanted to take Biomedical ethics as my philosophy course to fullfill my PHI ethics requirement. I think it would be the philosophy course that would interest me most.

  5. I am Adam Sprecker, I am a sophomore Biology major. It is true that i am taking this class to fulfill a core requirement, but the other reason as to why i am taking this class is because i want to find other ways to express my thoughts and opinions towards others. Music is my life i have no idea where i would be without it. I may later on consider going into some job in the medical field at the moment i am just trying to live each day as it comes. Lastly i love helping others in anyway i can and if i cant figure it out we can do so together till we find a solution

  6. My name is Kelsey Lynn Sparks. I am a junior chemistry and biology double major. I am the middle of 5 children in my family and I do not live on campus. I'd like to think I am a pretty chill and open person. I work at St. Elizabeth Hospital where I prepare sterile IV fluids. Among my classwork, I tutor general chemistry, I am president of the chemistry club, and I am doing chemistry research at TMC with human cremains. I also volunteer at several places, including Hoxworth Blood Center, Susan G Komen, and I judge local science fairs at elementary schools.

I am taking this class because I loved death and dying with Dr. Cate and so to fulfill my next philosophy credit, I wanted to take her again. Biomedical ethics truly applies to me since I plan to go into medical school. Thus, while this is fulfilling a requirement, I am very intriguied by this material! Sadly I couldn't take this class in London as I wished, but that's okay!

  7. My name is Christina Martin. I am a senior Psychology major and I want to either go into something clinical and/or work with animals. Right now, I am thinking about going into animal behavior or animal assisted therapy. I am taking this class to fulfill my requirement and honestly, it was the only ethics class that fit into my schedule. However, I do find this to be an interesting topic and I think that this is topic that people need to think about and discuss with others.

  8. I am Gabrielle Jimenez, I go by Gab. As a junior bio major I decided this was the most relevant ethics class to my career choice, but I also chose it because I enjoyed my previous philosophy class with Dr. Cate. I hope to use what I learn about ethics in my position as a dog trainer at work. Hopefully this class will help improve my ethical decision making skills.

  9. My name is Mike Burns. I am a senior biology major and am attending dental school next semester at the University of Kentucky. I have already taken both of my philosophy classes, so I am taking this class due to its relevance to all people looking at a career in a health care profession.

  10. My name is Jason Handley. I am a junior criminal justice major and am currently attempting to intern with the United States marshals. I also play baseball at TMC. This is my second philosophy class, so I am taking this class to fulfill a core requirement. But regardless, I am still extremely exited to learn more about Biomedical Ethics.

  11. I am Antonio Booker and I am a senior Biology major with hopes of getting accepted to pharmacy school very soon. As stated in class I played four years of football here at Thomas More and enjoyed it. I am taking this class because I am required to take a philosophy course, but this one sounded interesting to me because it is health related. It also pertains to my future because I want to be a healthcare professional.

  12. I am Adam Rauch and am a junior Criminal Justice major. I am going into my senior season of football here at TMC. I went to East Central High School in Indiana. I am in this class because it is required, and it is my second philosophy class.

  13. My name is Craig Hyson and I am a junior Business Administration major. I just transferred to Thomas More and I like it a lot. I've been to a large state school and now a smaller school and the class size and attention is great at TMC. It is a lot better when your teacher knows your name and you can talk with your teacher. School isn't as fun when you have 200 kids in your class and you can never talk to your teacher. I played baseball for 2 years at Wright State and now play for Thomas More. I am taking this class to fill a requirement but I think it is an important class because it teaches us how to handle end of life issues, that we will all experience eventually.

  14. So my name is Andy Bramer and I am a Sophomore Biology major who might pick up a philosophy minor. I'm from the city of Independence, Kentucky and attended Holy Cross High School in Covington, KY. I really enjoy discussing the world around me as well as the issues that are present in it. The greatest thing a teacher can hope to accomplish is to stimulate curiosity and inspire the students in the class to explore the topics more in depth. I think we have a really good group and will all take something valuable away from the time spent in class. Can't wait to hear everyone's personal insights and I'll see you in class.

  15. My name is Jamie Hennies and I am a junior psychology major. My future career goal is to become a clinical psychologist. I am taking this class not only because it fulfills my philosophy/ethics credit, but also because I plan on going into the medical field and being knowledgeable of biomedical ethics will be very essential to that. This class seems very interesting and I am excited to see what this semester holds!

  16. Hellooo all! My name is Erik Stephens. I am a senior Bio Premed student. Im am taking this class for two reasons. The first reason is quite obvious.... I need a philosophy course! The second is because as a Pre-med student I do actually have interests in the medical field (duhhh). I believe the course will help prepare me, not with medical practices, but with social issues I might face while interacting with patients and patients families. After the first class, I really knew this class was going to be of interest and of USE. We discussed how to tell patients that we are going to take them off life support in a manner that is not making it seem like the physicians are abandoning them. This is something I never really put thought into. When you think of becoming a doctor you think about surgery, practices, technology etc., you never really put a great deal of thought into specific situations as that.

  17. My name is Brittani Orth. I am a sophmore Nursing student. I am taking this class to fulfill my philosophy requirement and also because it seemed the most interesting. I plan to learn a lot from this course and hopefully take death and dying since there has been a lot of good things said about it!

  18. I'm Lucas Nare, a sophomore Biology major with an interest in the field of physical therapy. Like many others here, I also needed to take a Philosophy course, so I chose the one that sounded the most interesting and pertinent to my major. So far, the class has already made me think about moral questions and decisions I had never really given much thought to before. I think that I'll be able to apply a lot of what I learn in this class to situations I may find myself in in the future.

  19. I am Tyler Combs and I am a Computer Information System major. I needed to fill a philosophy credit class and this seemed very interesting. From the first few classes, it has already made me think about how I feel about the health care and what I thought was right and wrong. I feel like this class will give me a better perspective and view of how to look at things.

  20. Hey everyone! I am Kammi Neyman. I am a senior Biology major and a gerontology minor. The reason I am taking this class is firstly to fulfill one of my philosophy requirements, but another reason is because i will be working in the medical field in the future. What I learn in this class will be applied to my future goals. I am coming in with an open mind and willing to see other people's views with the issues that will come up during class.

  21. Hey guys! Sorry for the late post. Apparently none of my posts from last week went through. Anyway, my name is Emily Hornback and I am a native Cincinnatian. I went to high school across the river at Seton High School and am currently a Junior Bio major here at Thomas More. When I'm finished with my Bio degree, I plan to attend UC to earn a Masters in Nursing. I am a nanny to a two year old little girl. I have been with this family since Madi was 10 weeks old.
I choose this class to fulfill my philosophy/ethics core because I felt that it best pertained to my future. Also, I took Death and Dying last Spring with Dr. Cate and really enjoyed it; I figured this class would be similar. I'm looking forward to looking at all of these ethical issues from the perspective of twenty others!

I have a lot of exploring to do before i pick a career; however, i am excited about what the future will hold

  23. In case you didn't know I'm Lauren Dahman. I am currently a Nursing Major with a Gerontology minor. I've lived in Northern Kentucky all my life. I graduated from Holy Cross High School in Latonia, Kentucky. I currently work as a PCA at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center on the Neuroscience and Neurology floor. I chose this class because it seemed fitting for a nursing major or anyone who is thinking about being in the medical field. I also took death and dying which fufilled my gerontology minor and loved the class. So I thought this class would be similar and quite interesting
